Ashley Deschampe in final eight competitors for national three-point shootout

Cook County Viking Ashley Deschampe is looking for votes in her bid to make a trip to New Orleans for the National High School Three-Point Championship in late March.

She is competing in a video and vote contest on Facebook. Deschampe beat out her head-to-head competitor in the first round and is going up against Cassidee Ranger from Hamilton, Arizona in the second round. As of Friday morning, the two basketball players were tied with 50 percent of the vote in their race. To get to the round of four early next week, Deshcampe has to accrue more votes on Facebook than Ranger does. The winner of the Facebook competition will join 15 other girls in the shoot-out during the NCAA Final Four March Madness Weekend in The Big Easy.

To vote on Facebook, fans are asked to go to Voteers then click on the "Women's 3-Point" button and vote for the video of the player they want to support. Deschampe's video was on the right side about halfway down the site as of Friday morning. Votes can be cast once per day and this round ends on Monday, March 5 at midnight.

The Viking is the only player from Minnesota and the Midwest to make the competition. On Thursday night, she set the new single-game scoring record with a 44-point performance in a Section 7-A second-round victory over Carlton. She hit seven three-point baskets on her way to the new record.

Deschampe and the Vikings play at 6 PM, Saturday against the Cromwell Cardinals in the quarter-final round game at Duluth Denfeld. The game will be broadcast on WTIP with Norman Moe and Dick Dorr bringing listeners all the action from tip-off to final buzzer.
