Please substitute your username (everything before @boreal.org in your email address) wherever the instructions say username or login-name:

(NOTE: Once your email is set up, the easiest way to check it is to send a message to yourself. Wait a few seconds and then check your mail. If you have configured everything correctly the message will come right back to you.)

To first set up your Boreal email account on your iPhone or iPad:

  • Go to Settings and tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars

             

  • Tap "Add Account" (at the bottom of the list)

            

  • Tap "Other" (at the bottom)

            

  • Tap "Add Mail Account"

            

  • Fill in the following information:
    • Name: Your real name as you want it to appear on your emails - ex. Joe Smith
    • Address: Your Boreal email address - ex joe@boreal.org
    • Password: Your Boreal password (remember, it's case-sensitive!)
    • Description: Anything you want.  A good option is "Boreal Email"
  • Tap the Next button at the top right.

               

  • POP3 customers - tap the POP button at the top.  Otherwise leave IMAP selected.  If you aren't sure what type of customer you are, select POP.
  • Fill in the following information where requested:
    • Under Incoming Mail Server:
      • For POP customers  - Host Name: mail.boreal.org
      • For IMAP customers - Host Name: imap.boreal.org
      • User Name: Your boreal username, in all small letters.  This is everything before @boreal.org in your email address.  For example, if your email address is joe@boreal.org, your username is joe.
      • Password: Your Boreal password (it's probably already filled in)
    • Under Outgoing Mail Server:
      • Host Name: smtp.boreal.org
      • User Name: Your boreal username - same as for Incoming mail server.  Note that it says this is optional - it's not!
      • Password:  Your Boreal password - same as for incoming mail server.

                           

  • Tap the Next button at the top right.
  • You'll get a message saying it can't connect using SSL.  Tap "Yes" to try setting up the account without SSL
  • You'll get the same message again for the outgoing mail server - Tap "Yes" again.

The system should now finish setting up your account and you will start receiving your Boreal email through your Mail app.
