The above table illustrates the priorities and projected
timeframes for East Zone burn units this fall.
Note: The burn sequence is fluid. Not all high priority burns will always be the first to be ignited. Burn selections will have to do with control issues related to resource availability, weather conditions, and fire danger during burn windows, as well as NEPA, legal, and monitoring issues.
Some lower priority burns may be accomplished earlier
because they can be completed with available resources within prescribed
parameters.
The East Zone strategy is to operate with a Type III
organization, with supplemental resources being ordered as needed, until around
the end of September. At that point we plan to ignite the Magnetic Rock and
Kekakabic units, which combined, are about 5000 acres . At this point we are
looking at bringing in a Type I or Type II overhead team to manage burns
requiring a large organization of 70 or more personnel.
Current plans are to use the Top Of The Trail facilities to
conduct operations, with additional logistical and procurement support to be
provided locally to minimize overall costs, reduce logistical problems, enhance
operating timeframes, and provide local economic opportunities.
