Days of protesting has paid off for Native families who claim their children are being abused in area foster homes.
The families have been gathering outside the Carlton County courthouse for more than a week after they say pictures and video proved two women were abusing children in their care.
Tuesday, a judge granted the Fond du Lac Band’s petition, asking for the children to be removed from the homes. According to advocates in the hearing, the judge agreed the kids were in imminent danger.
There are 10 children in the two homes. The two women involved are sisters who the families say have been taking in foster kids for two decades. Cloquet Police are investigating the abuse claims.
The children will reportedly stay out of the women’s care until the investigation is complete. We are not naming the women involved because they have not been charged yet. They’re due back in court next Tuesday.
