April 1 update
***The Winter Storm and Gale Watches have been cancelled. Winter Storm and Gale Warnings have been issued.***

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for NE Minnesota, including Cook and Lake Counties, and the Tribal Lands of the Grand Portage Lake Superior Chippewa beginning 7 p.m. this evening through 7 p.m. April 2.

Heavy lake effect and orographic snow (orographic is precipitation caused by hills or mountain ranges, which deflect moisture-laden air masses upward, causing them to cool and release moisture, in this case, snow) is expected. 11 - 15 inches is likely, with 13 - 17 inches possible for the higher terrains of the North Shore. Wind gusts up to 40 mph are possible. A Gale Warning is in effect from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday for waves 6 to 11 feet.

Winter lovers who can't get enough of the season are again in luck, as another winter storm moves across Minnesota this week.

The National Weather Service in Duluth has issued a Winter Storm Watch for all of NE Minnesota, along with much of the north-central portion of the state. The Watch is effective from 7 p.m. on April 1 through 1 a.m. on April 3.

There is an 80% chance of at least six inches of heavy snow, with a 30% chance of 12 inches along the North Shore. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph are also possible. A Gale Watch has also been issued beginning Tuesday evening through late Wednesday night for possible 9 to 14-foot waves.

Travel, especially throughout the day on Wednesday, could be difficult to impossible.

Boreal Community Media will continue to provide updates on this storm as they are available.
