The Superior National Forest Fire Staff is planning to burn approximately 138 acres of hand piles in the Flour Lake area, and approximately 7 acres of piles in the Crooked Lake area on Wednesday. Weather conditions Thursday and Friday are expected to be cool and rainy, and the piles are generally surrounded by snow.

Expect to see heavy smoke initially with some higher flames until the individual piles burn down. There may be light smoke that lingers in the area of the piles for another day or two post operations.
