From the Violence Prevention Center - January 31, 2025

When a Winter Storm Watch for Saturday, February 1st, was issued this week calling for up to 10” in some parts of the county, the Violence Prevention Center (VPC) decided to keep a close eye on the evolution of the predicted weather patterns. While there is always a chance that the projected weather system misses Cook County, it was important for the VPC to inform food donors with enough notice to avoid any food waste or inconvenience. With no changes to the weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service this morning, it was determined that it is in everyone’s best interest to cancel the event with the hopes of rescheduling at a future date.

While disappointed, the VPC looks forward to hosting Beyond the Reel at a future date when there is less risk to the community who volunteers at and attends the event. This annual event is always an amazing opportunity to raise funds for this essential program and provides space for community members to engage in the VPC’s mission to foster a community which cultivates healthy relationships, empowers systems to serve individuals with equity and compassion, and does not tolerate violence.

Updates about the rescheduled date will be announced as soon as they come together. For the most up to date information, please visit the VPC’s website or sign up for the email newsletter.
